start-ups backed

Each one started with a small cheque and a long conversation. I stay close after the money goes in.

What I look for

  • A real customer problem

Someone is already paying to solve it, even badly.

  • Founders who sell

You can get a first customer without me.

  • Clear numbers

You know what you earn, what you spend and what you need.

  • A reason for the Gulf

You know the market and have talked to the buyers.

How to pitch me

Keep it short. I read everything and reply to every serious note.

  1. Write

Four paragraphs: the problem, the product, the traction, the ask.

  2. Attach

A deck if you have one. A link to a demo is better.

  3. Talk

If it fits, we speak for thirty minutes.

  4. Decide

I tell you yes, no or not yet, and why.

Beyond the cheque

Introductions

To buyers, advisers and other founders in the region, when they will help.

Straight advice

I say what I think, once, and then back your decision.

What I do not back

  • Companies with no paying customers and no plan to get any
  • Ideas that need a licence you do not yet have
  • Founders who will not share their numbers

Questions

How much do you invest?

Small first cheques at seed. We agree the amount once we have talked.

Do you invest outside the Gulf?

I look mainly at companies selling into the Gulf. A company based elsewhere can still pitch.

Will you sign an NDA?

Not before the first conversation. Share what you are comfortable sharing.

How fast do you reply?

Usually within a week.

Four paragraphs and a link is enough.
