Shaping Waves, Shaping Wood: A Maker’s Double Life
Most early mornings you will find Sean Woolsey, of the iconic Sean Woolsey Studio in Costa Mesa, California, at the beach surfing, on dawn patrol. Sean says, “There’s no better way to focus my energy for the day ahead than the exhilaration of a morning surf”. By 8 AM Sean has kicked out of his last ride, stripped off his wetsuit, driven the short drive to Sean Woolsey Studio and is settling into his “studio mode” onshore.
For 15 years Sean’s woodworking focus has been shaping exquisite hardwoods into distinctively designed, luxury sports tables and fine furniture. Made to order per client request.
Sean creates products purposely designed to last generations, in contrast to a ""mass-market” approach. The core of what he does is informed by the beauty, structure, and simplicity in nature. Production is all local so Sean can keep tight reins on quality.
A primary focus for Sean is his line of beautiful sports tables including pool tables, ping pong tables, shuffleboard tables and poker and Texas Hold’em tables. He even has just recently produced his first made to order Foosball Table.
All of Sean’s game tables and other furniture pieces are constructed using client chosen black walnut, maple, white oak, and even cherry. Other specialty woods can be requested. There is a wide, almost unlimited choice of fabrics too.
Another popular item for Sean Woolsey’s clients has been his prestigious lineup of chairs. His distinctively designed chairs have the perfect combination of style and comfort. They have been a big hit with interior designers and architects alike.
Sean has a Special Trade Program. If you are an interior designer or architect, check out Sean’s website program for the trade. While you are on the website don’t miss the supremely comfortable, gorgeous “Dreamer Chair” in a huge range of woods and fabrics. Another “don’t miss” chair designed by Sean is his Campbell chair: fabulous to look at and even better to sit in.
Whether he is shredding a wave at the beach, creating new designs or deep in wood working, you can be sure that this passionate surfer/woodworker will deliver up an excited cowabunga!
