Google Search Console shows how your page appears on Google. To use it, Google must know the page is yours. You prove it with a meta tag: you copy it from Google and paste it in your VIP tab.

Before you start

  • You need a free Google account.
  • Your page address is shown in your VIP tab, for example https://listingsbiz.com/biz/your-name/. Copy it.

Steps

  1. Open search.google.com/search-console and sign in.
  2. Press Add property. Choose URL prefix (the box on the right).
  3. Paste your page address (the one you copied from your VIP tab) and press Continue.
  4. Google shows verification methods. Open Other verification methods and choose HTML tag.
  5. Google shows a line like <meta name="google-site-verification" content="AbC123…" />. Press Copy.
  6. Go back to your VIP tab. In Your own tracking, paste it in the Search Console tag box. You can paste the whole tag or only the code between the quotes after content=. Both work.
  7. Press Save draft, or Send for review if your page is ready.
  8. When your page is live (approved), go back to Search Console and press Verify.

Google can only verify your page once it is live, because the tag is added to the live page, not to previews. If Verify fails on the first try, check that your page is approved and try again in a few minutes.

After you are verified

  • Open Performance to see searches, clicks and your average position. Data starts to appear after a few days.
  • Our team also asks Google to index your page when we approve it. You can press URL inspection → Request indexing yourself too.

Common problems

ProblemWhat to do
Please check the Search Console tagPaste the tag exactly as Google shows it, or only the code inside content="…". Do not add spaces or other text.
Google says the tag was not foundYour page is not live yet, or you saved the tag after approval. Send the update for review, then try Verify again.
You added the wrong addressAdd a new property with the exact address shown in your VIP tab. The address must start with https://.

If you change your page address later, add the new address in Search Console and paste its new tag.
